I am a little nervous for Ronda, Kamara, Jorge, Julio and Harry. I have much confidence in them, but the process is not an easy one. They will sweat, bleed and perhaps cry before the day is done. But nothing of value comes easy - or else everyone would have it, depleting it of its value. There seems to be a lack of attendance since the holidays. Testing is in February, so we'll see if that brings people to the mat. c u there! mj Master Jeff: Thursday, July 16, 2009 - 10:05:58 PM THE ALL NEW INSTRUCTORS’ FORUM! In July 2009, we implemented a new Certified Instructor’s program. Certification under this new program requires a background check, written essay exam, skills test, observation classes, intern teaching, unanimous approval of all previous CI’S, firearm handling and 1st aid training. Each CI receives a very thick, expandable instructor’s manual, an ID card and an impressive display in front of the dojo – and of course the prestige and respect due such an accomplishment. They will have clearance to purchase certain items like instructor patches or uniforms which are of course available only to CI’s – as well as other perks. This forum is part of the package. You see, fun and rewarding as certification may be, it is not actually for the instructors themselves. It is for the school. The program was created to make our dojo stronger and more organized. Even in the first weeks of the program, the quality of classes has sky rocketed, all due to the scrutiny with which we are approaching our instructing. I say we because as the applicants watch me teaching, and ask me about teaching, I am watching myself teach and and reevaluating every method I use, every crutch on which I lean. It has really been amazing. So, we offer this forum for instructors to weigh in on their opinions about technique, philosophy and life in general, and to just share their thoughts about life in general. They’ve learned and been through a lot at SMTKD, which gives them something to say. So instructors, we’re ready to listen! God Bless, mj |
